Estimate your Energy Production - Power Curves

Estimate Your Energy Production

Calculate annual yield, daily yield, and average power for a Proven Energy wind turbine at any particular location including your own back yard. Calculations are based on standard wind distribution models and should be taken as estimations only. Your performance may vary.

Site Wind Speed

Before installing a small wind system it is essential to have a good knowledge of wind speed at the site. To find out the general wind speed in your area, visit the appropriate website on the right. Please note that site specific wind speeds can vary from data obtained from these websites.

Energy Calculator

How to use the Calculator

Simply modify the fields in the drop-down menus below to calculate estimated energy production. See the glossary below for details about each field. If you are not familiar with metric standards, please use the Unit Converter below to convert your figures.

The exact performance of wind turbine systems is extremley difficult to predict with any certainty due to the variability in the wind from location to location and from year to year. This estimate is based upon the best available information but is given as guidance only and should not be considered as a guarantee. For a greater level of certainty, it is recommended that on-site wind speed monitoring is undertaken for at least a year.

Glossary

Turbine Model - you can choose one of Proven Energy's turbine models.

Average Wind - this is the annual average wind speed of your site.

Anemometer Height - this is the height at which your average wind speed is measured.

Tower Height - the tower height of your turbine.

Site Elevation - the height of your site above the sea level.

Temperature - the average temperature at our site.

Wind Shear Exponent - This factor helps calculate the effects of terrain roughness and obstacles at your site which can have a detrimental effect on your power production. Please use the chart below to select the best figure for your site.

Annual Yield - the estimated kWh produced by your turbine in a year.

Average Daily Yield - estimated kWh produced by your turbine per day.

Average Wind at the Hub - the average wind speed corrected to take the tower height into account.

Average Power - average power produced by your turbine.

Technical Notes

Calculations are based on standard wind distribution models and should be taken as estimations only. This is only a simple calculator and not a complex prediction tool. Your performance may vary.
