Fairmont hotel will boast a wind turbine in honour of Earth Hour
The Fairmont Hotel in St Andrews is making an innovative stance for Earth Hour by installing a temporary wind turbine.
Earth Hour aims to highlight concerns about climate change to world leaders.
The World Wildlife Fund is asking individuals, businesses, governments and organisations around the world to turn off the lights for one hour.
The Fairmont is showing its support for the cause by using a Proven 2.5kW wind turbine to power some of its appliances at the hotel.
Jonathan Titterton, director of facilities at Fairmont Hotel, said: "As well as switching off the lights the small wind turbine will be presented as an educational piece on the need for alternative energy sources in the light of low fossil reserves and a cleaner carbon footprint."
In 2008, 50 million people across 35 countries switched off their lights for one hour and Earth Hour 2009 already has 2,712 cities, towns and municipalities in 83 countries already committed.
