UK FARM COUNTERACTS RISING ENERGY PRICES

The Challenge

With farming becoming a tougher industry to be involved in, new innovative and effective approaches are needed to balance rising energy costs.

An Ayrshire farms electricity consumption was so costly the owner wanted an immediate solution to reduce high bills yet still have enough power for the 4 bedrooms and 3 reception roomed farm house. The owner was keen to become less reliant on the national grid and to reduce C02 emissions by obtaining power through a renewable device.

The Solution

A Proven 11 wind turbine was installed at the farm due to its ability to produce a high electricity output. The Proven Energy wind turbine is grid connected allowing the farmer to both import and export energy to the national grid as required. The site is an ideal location for a wind turbine, being open and exposed with an average wind speed of 6m/s.

The Benefit

Not only does the farm now benefit from green energy produced by the turbine, but any excess energy can be sold back to the grid generating the farmer with income. Having paid a one off cost for the turbine, there will be no more costly energy bills and after a payback period of five to seven years the farmer will generate free electricity. The wind turbine is low to maintain only requiring yearly inspections. The owner can now use their power safe in the knowledge that there are no C02 emissions as a result of the power generated.
