UK funding for farmers and rural Communities

Below is useful information on funding and planning your Proven Energy Turbine for your farm. All grants have to be applied for in advance of purchasing your wind turbine.

The Scotland Rural Development Programme (SRDP) is the Scottish Government's new programme providing grant funding for Scotland's rural areas for the installation of Proven Energy wind turbines. 40% to 50% funding can be achieved for farmers (dependant on location – LSA & non-LSA) up to a maximum of £25,000. This scheme is being targeted to develop economic, environmental and social benefits throughout the country and requires you to use 80% of the renewable energy you generate on your farm.

Grants are open to farmers based in Scotland and assist with 50% funding on the installation of Proven Energy wind turbines to support your agricultural building.  Favouring remote (off-grid) installations they may, however look at grid-connect installations.  This will be looked on a case by case basis and we suggest your contact the CCAGS team to see if you will be eligible. 

Other resources for Scotland Grants

Under the Rural Development Programme for England there will be a launch of a new funding programme to support sustainable farming in your area. The Resource Efficiency Programme might part fund the installation of a Proven Energy wind turbine.  Important Note: Please note each region works slightly differently and to receive the grant, you must apply for and receive confirmation of RDPE funding before committing to any expenditure. Depending on what region you are in you might expect the following grant assistance:

North East Regions

Through the Micro-development Fund (accessed through Business Link Operator for the North East – Business & Enterprise North East Ltd.) the grant supports up to 40% of the cost of the turbine and foundations to a maximum of £10,000. To apply for a grant you must first call Business Link on 0845 600 9006 and ask for an appointment with an Account Manager. 

North West Regions

As part of the Rural Development Programme for England, The Northwest Livestock Programmewill only provide grant funding towards a wind turbine if it is identified by an independent audit that it is the priority in terms of resourceand energy efficiency. If the farmer decides to use the audit report to support a capital grant then 3 quotes will need to be provided.

The Yorkshire Forward Farm Resource Efficiency Programme (FREP). The programme is open to farm businesses looking to reduce the energy costs of their holding, Grant supports can be paid up to 40% of the cost of the turbine and foundations, farms located in a Less Favoured Area (LFA) may be eligible to apply for up to 50%. Maximum grant of £25,000.

West Midland Regions

The Rural Enterprise Grant (REG) supports up to 40% of the cost renewables a part of a wider diversification project (not standalone project).  The maximum grant for the whole project is £62,500.

Funding is available for renewable energy installations that provide heat and/or power for use on the farm. The activity should improve the economic performance of the farm through use of new technologies. Grants of up to 40% of eligible project costs may be made, rising to 50% in Less Favoured Areas (LFAs). Under the RDPE scheme you might be eligible for support for a diversified income stream, in which case the majority of the generated power is sold back to the grid.

The RDPE grant could support up to 40% of the cost of your wind turbine installation with no regulatory limit. As a general rule, investments need to show the installation will be generating a direct financial benefit to the business. Please contact Chris or Madeline above for more information.
