Households, communities and businesses who install renewable energy technologies such as small wind turbines will from, 1st April 2010, be entitled to claim payments for producing your own renewable energy.
It will do this by guaranteeing a minimum payment for the electricity generated
as well as the electricity exported to grid.
Please note that these tariffs only apply to England, Wales and Scotland. Northern Ireland has not yet taken a decision on Feed-In Tariffs.
How the scheme works
There are three ways in which you will be able to benefit if you install a Proven Energy wind turbine:
Generation tariff: a fixed payment from your electricity supplier for every unit of energy or kilowatt hour (kWh) generated (the 'generation tariff') for a period of 20 years.
Export tariff: if you do not use the electricity on-site you can export it to the grid. There are two options available to the generators (A) you will get a guaranteed minimum payment (3p/kWh) or (B) generator may engage commercial market rates. This rate payment is additional to the generation tariff for every kWh exported to the grid (the 'export tariff').
On-site use of green electricity: you will also benefit from on-site use of the electricity you generate offsetting this against electricity you would otherwise have had to buy.
Off-grid installations will also be eligible to benefit from the feed-in tariffs.
Tariff Levels
Wind >1.5-15kW..................26.7p/kWh
Wind >15-100kW.................24.1p/kWh
Tariff levels vary depending on the scale of the installation. Proven Energy's range of wind turbines will be eligible for the >1.5-15kW tariff band. The tariff levels shown apply to installations that were completed from 1st April 2010 to 31st March 2012, after then the rates decrease. All generation tariff and export tariffs will be linked to the Retail Price Index (RPI) which ensures they rise with inflation.
Degression Rates
Depending on what year you decide to install a wind turbine, degression rates apply. The degression is frozen for the first two years with a decrease year on year. The year you install the wind turbine is the rate you will receive for the remainder of the tariff lifetime. All tariffs within the table will be affected via indexation to the Retail Price Index (Inflation/deflation) and will be revised each year in line with the RPI. Click here to see the table.
EG - If you installed your wind turbine in year 3 at 25.5p/kWh and the annual inflation was 2% increase every year from now on - the tariff would equate to 26.5302p/kWh (25.5 x 1.02 x 1.02)
New Installations
New installations (1st April 2010 onwards), <50kW, must be Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) compliant - both product and installer. Only products from a list of approved technologies are eligible for funding and must be installed by an accredited company from the list of approved installers. MCS is an independent scheme that certifies microgeneration products and installers in accordance with consistent standards. It is designed to evaluate microgeneration products and installers against robust criteria providing greater protection for consumers. Proven Energy are proud to say they are fully MCS compliant (products and installer) and where the first small scale wind turbine manufacturer that achieved MCS certification. For a full list of MCS approved installers please go to the MCS website by clicking here.
All eligible microgenerators that have gained accreditation under the Renewables Obligation (RO) before 15 July 2009 will automatically transfer from the RO to the FiT's. However, they will receive a lower tariff level than newer installations, equivalent to what they received through ROCs (9p/kWh). Generating stations that had become operational before 15 July 2009 and that had not applied for accreditation under the RO before this date will not be eligible for the FiT's.
Any generating stations eligible for the FiT's, where installation is completed after 15 July 2009 and before April 2010 will be able to benefit from the FiT's as if the installation had been completed on the start-up date of the scheme.
If you are thinking of benefiting from the FiT's some grants may not support your application. Please check with the grant body first, before installing a wind turbine.
