Students in Sheringham High School’s Eco Team were delighted to find their new 15metre wind turbine had been installed when they returned from the February half term break. Lincolnshire based company Gladwood (BCS) Ltd had pulled out all the stops to erect the turbine whilst the students were on holiday. This install was fully mentored by Aeolus Power.
Situated at the front of the School, the turbine is to act as a beacon to the local community, showing the School’s commitment to renewable energy and the environment.
The installation of this Proven Energy 6kW wind turbine marks a significant achievement for Scottish wind turbine manufacturer, Proven Energy, as it is their 2000th installation. The Proven 11 allows the school to harness the wind to contribute to its energy requirements while lowering their carbon footprint.
Andrew McMullan, CEO for Proven Energy said “This represents a milestone for Proven Energy and it’s fitting that it is an educational installation. Proven Energy has always believed that by promoting renewable energy in learning facilities we can help model the thinking of the next generation.”
Headteacher, Tim Roderick, said “Students and staff in the Eco Team have worked very hard to raise the funds to get the wind turbine built. Global warming and rising sea levels threaten future generations in particular and it’s wonderful that our students have been in the forefront of such an important initiative. They have shown that all of us can do something now to move our energy production away from the burning of fossil fuels”.
The installation would not have been possible without generous funding from national lottery groups Awards for All and the Community Sustainable Energy Programme which is managed by BRE on behalf of the Big Lottery Fund as part of their Changing Spaces programme, as well as the Department for Business Enterprise and Regulatory Reform under their Low Carbon Buildings Programme Phase 2.
